Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)


PMAY has been introduced by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on 1 June 2015. PMAY Scheme is an initiative provided by the Government of India which aims at providing affordable housing to the urban poor. It is a Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS), which means beneficiaries under PMAY scheme are eligible for interest subsidy if they avail a loan to buy or construct a house. The mission of this scheme is to provide housing to all by the end of 2022.

Project targets to provide affordable housing in selected towns and cities, while also ensuring eco-friendly homes.

Eligibility Criteria for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)

  • Any household with an annual income between 6 lakh to Rs. 18 lakh can apply for this scheme. The annual income of a spouse could also be included while applying.
  • The applicant or any other family member must not own a pucca house in any part of the country.
  • The beneficiary can only buy a new house in order to enjoy Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana benefits.
  • The beneficiary cannot avail PMAY benefits on an already built house.
  • People will be allowed to buy/construct new houses only.
  • Indian citizens who are women may apply. No other demographic will be considered as long as they are women.
  • For senior citizens and differently-abled, ground floor housing is given preference.
  • Scheduled tribes and castes will also be eligible.
  • If the applicant is married, both together in joint ownership or either of the spouse can get a single subsidy.

How to Apply for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)

  • Visit the PM Awas Yojana official website http://pmaymis.gov.in
  • The process begins with AADHAR Verification by entering the 12-digit Aadhar number under the ‘Citizen Assessment’ option.
  • Enter all information in the application fill in all personal details and click the ‘save’ button.
  • On successful application, you will be allotted a system generated application number, that can be used for future reference

Interest Rate Subsidy under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)

  • Apply for a home loan from any listed lending institution asking for subsidy and the same is there in the application form while applying for Home Loan
  • The lending institution will check your application and if you are eligible under the plan, after that your application will be sent to the Central Nodal Agency.
  • After the verification of your application if it is approved and no discrepancies are found, the Central Nodal Agency will disburse the subsidy amount to the specific lending institution.
  • This amount will be credited to your Loan account by the lending institution which will lower your total loan amount.
  • You can continue paying the EMIs towards the balance loan amount.
